As the Dragon-Head-Raising Festival fell on March 20 this year, barbershops across Ningbo saw a rush of customers eager to follow the traditional custom of getting a haircut for good luck. In Jiangbei District, Ningbo, a long-established barbershop welcomed a special guest: Samy, a Moroccan student from Ningbo University of Technology. Curious about Chinese traditions, Samy decided to try the ritual believed to "cut away bad luck" and usher in good fortune for the year ahead. Sitting a little nervously in the chair, he joked that the vintage vibes of the time-honored shop made him feel like he was "back in the 1990s," while the barber appeared just as focused on the task. When the haircut was finished, Samy gave the experience a perfect score. "A ten out of ten," he said with a smile, adding that the haircut felt "comfortable and amazing" and that he would recommend the shop to friends eager to experience this festive tradition.
